Massage therapy improves circulation by bringing oxygen and other nutrients to the body tissues. It relieves muscle tension and pain, increases flexibility and mobility, helps clear lactic acid and other waste, and reduces pain and stiffness in muscles and joints. Massage therapy relieves stress by lowering levels of hormones, namely cortisol, while enhancing the body’s immune system. These numerous health benefits allow the body to function more efficiently and comfortably.

Types of Massage
Swedish Massage – the massage therapist (MT) applies long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle using massage oil or lotion to produce a very gentle and relaxing massage for the client. Swedish massage is often recommended for someone who has never experienced professional massage.
Deep Tissue Massage – The MT targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue by using slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. Deep Tissue massage is recommended for individuals with chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. It is not uncommon to experience some soreness for one or two days following a deep tissue massage session.
Sports Massage – is specifically designed for individuals who engage in rigorous physical activity and place high demands on their bodies. The MT uses a combination of techniques aimed at helping muscles and tissues to repair or recover faster and to maintain flexibility, thereby keeping the athlete injury-free and performing at a high level. The strokes applied are generally faster than Swedish massage and facilitated stretching is usually incorporated into the session.
Chair Massage – also known as Seated Massage or On-site Massage, is a technique that involves the use of a specially designed massage chair in which the client sits comfortably. Seated massage includes bodywork that incorporates aspects of Shiatsu and Swedish massage. It can be provided on-site at a variety of venues including businesses, social events, health fairs, conferences, etc. It is a relaxing, yet energizing experience.

Services
Acupuncture
Acupuncture uses pre-sterile one time use stainless steel pins that lightly enter the skin and activate the internal systems of the body that restore health and healing. The body has pathways called meridians where energy (Qi) flows connecting all the body systems and internal organs. By stimulating the points along these pathways the body releases chemicals, enzymes and hormones to help the healing process.
Herbology
Herbology is the Chinese art of combining medicinal herbs. It is traditionally one of the more important modalities utilized in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Each herbal medicine prescription is a cocktail of many herbs tailored to the individual patient. The practitioner usually designs a remedy using one or two main ingredients that target the illness. Then he adds other ingredients to adjust the formula to the patient's individual yin/yang conditions.
Chinese Herbology is a highly effective form of treatment for the following conditions: joint and muscle pain, stress, digestive and bowel disorders, menopausal symptoms, PMS, diabetes, impotence, headaches, obesity, eating disorders, substance abuse, hair loss, premature graying, fibroids, infertility, emotional disorders respiratory problems, insomnia, impaired immune function, and seasonal allergies.
Kung Fu
Kung Fu is a vigorous form of Martial Art that focuses on conditioning to build one’s speed and power. This Martial Art is excellent for physical training, self-defense and mental fortitude. Kung Fu is famous for fighting skills, but it also provides mental, physical and spiritual development. Group and private classes are available in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and weapons, Southern Tiger Crane Kung Fu and Tong Bei.
Tai Chi
Tai Chi is regarded as the highest Martial Art. Though today it is widely known for its relaxation and health benefits, it is actually a very effective and powerful form of Martial Art and self-defense. Tai Chi focuses on relaxing the mind and body which allows one to neutralize the opponents force, follow the direction of that force and then redirect it. So in essence, you don’t use your own force but borrow your opponent’s.
Group and private classes are offered in Wu style, Tai Chi push hands and Tai Chi weapons.

- Managing stress more effectively
- Improving the quality of your relationships
- Instituting change

Clients who respond most favorably to Life Coaching demonstrate a willingness to learn something new and are committed to the process of making change and realizing their goals with the support and guidance of their Coach.
Biofeedback
Biofeedback is a technique that increases awareness of the mind-body connection and teaches self-regulation skills. It is based on scientific research of the psychophysiology of stress, emotions and the interactions between the heart and brain. Repeated exposure to stress produces erratic heart rate rhythms and inhibits higher cognitive functioning such as judgment, concentration, decision-making, motor skills and reaction time. Through biofeedback, individuals learn the tools and techniques to self-regulate, thereby neutralizing stress and optimizing performance.
Biofeedback is beneficial in addressing:
- Stress
- Generalized and social anxiety
- Hypertension
- Anxiety regarding public speaking
- Specific fears or phobias
- Tension headaches and migraines
- Insomnia and sleep disturbances
- Enhancing peak performance in sports, business and the performing arts
Sport Performance Consulting
A sport psychologist or sport performance consultant works with athletes, coaches and teams to optimize their performance. There are specific mental skills that can be learned and practiced by athletes of all ability levels which will enhance their performance and enjoyment in sport. Successful athletes train their minds like they train their bodies.
Areas commonly addressed:
- Goal-setting and commitment
- Concentration/focus
- Performing under pressure
- Dealing with injury and rehab
- Sport-life balance
- Team Cohesion
- Effective self-talk and visual imagery

Exercise Initiation & Maintenance
Exercise psychologists focus on the psychological or mental aspects associated with physical activity. Even though exercise has been shown to decrease the risk of many diseases, reduce blood pressure, and diminish feelings of depression and anxiety, reports indicate that only 25% of adults engage in 20+ minutes of vigorous physical activity 3 or more times per week, and 38% are completely sedentary (USDHHS, 2004).
Exercise psychologists or consultants work with their clients to better understand the factors that contribute to initial and sustained involvement in exercise. The exercise consultant often collaborates with other health professionals, such as personal trainers and nutritionists. An Exercise Consultant can help you to achieve the following:
- Identify realistic and meaningful goals that you can commit to
- Initiate healthy lifestyle changes
- Create an individualized exercise program that you can initiate and maintain
- Effectively deal with exercise interruptions and challenges with adherence (i.e., boredom, motivation issues, life changes, etc.)
